We have spent a few days analyzing an important moral question: In the war on terrorism, is it ethical to use tactics deemed "torture" by some to get information from suspected terrorists? Does the end (preventing another attack) justify the means (using mental and physical distress)? Who is responsible for abuses of power? What should happen to soldiers convicted of such abuses? Two paragraph (4-5 sentences are a paragraph) response for credit.

It is absolutely NOT ethical. I firmly believe every Human Being has unalienable rights no matter what. It astounds me the lengths a person will go to uphold their pride and their own beliefs, even if that length is to dehumanize, torture, and murder a fellow brother on the earth. (because in the end we are all the same, we all breathe the same air, we have the same blood, we are all human)

I think that the torture is wrong because some of the suspected terrorists they held in the prisons weren't actually terrorists. If the use of the mental and physical distress guaranteed that another attack would be prevented, it would justify it more, but there's no guarantee. Another reason the torture is wrong is because no matter what there's always going to be terrorist groups. They're like gangs, if the leader is caught, the next guy down goes into power, and they will continue to develop new ideas. So, no matter what there will always be more terrorists to catch and new information to obtain.

I think that if soldiers are taking suspected terrorists that they should have evidence as to why they are targeting that particular person. I also disagree with the methods of torture they are using. I think that some of the stuff being done to the suspects is not right. If it is harsh enough to cause death then it sound not be used.

I think torturing other someone to get information on another individual is not the way to deal with something. Like they said in the video we watched that some people will die before ratting on other people. I mean i get why some people are questioned and tortured because they helped with the attack. The only reason they did it though was because they were forced to. Not very many people are going to deny someone with higher power when they tell you what to do.

This idea of torturing people is just insane. Most these people are innocent and should at least get a lawyer or maybe even a polygraph test to see if they are hiding anything. The mental and physical pain that these poor people receive does not justify preventing another attack. They can't be blamed for what a few of there people did to hurt the US. It's not their fault, but they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

When I was watching this video all I could thing about was what if that was me being treated that way and how I wouldn’t like it. I would want revenge for what they did to me so is terrorism against us really terrorism or is it just pay back for what we did to them and their people. Treating them like they are dogs and other animals leaving them standing as punishment for being an innocent man. I mean really how would you feel like being stripped naked and shackled to the top of a room or have wires tied to your wrist and legs and told if you fall from the box you are going to get eletricuted. I mean is it really right? The soldiers were they really taking orders or were they just using them as relaxation tools.

I don't think that using torture to get information is ethical but sometimes thats the only thing that makes them tell you stuff. I think that if you earn their trust instead of torturing them you will get the same amount of information, you just have to be patient. I think torturing terrorists will help the war on terror because the way we treat people in the camps is considered terrorism to other countries.

I think that it is wrong to torture these people to get things out of them, but then again these people should just tell the truth. They tortured a lot of innocent people, these people were probably scared out of there minds, I would be so scared if I were them. First of all they don't even know if theses are terrorists that they are attacking so why would they attack innocent people.

I don't think torture should be used to extract information from "suspected" (keyword) terrorists. There are proven ways better than torture to get information, so it seems unnecessary. It also goes against basic human rights. The acts at the terrorist camp where Dilawar was at make American people seem like hypocrites.

It may not be ethical to use the tactic "torture" but it definitely works. Lots of people spit out what they are hiding after so much torture. I think the means are justifiable to prevent another attack on the US. The command of the US. The US leaders are responsible for all the torture. If it wasn't for the head of the US not so many people would be tortured.
