The past does not repeat itself, but it rhymes.-Mark Twain
World History entails the study of causes and effects which have shaped the story of our human existence from the first cave-dwellers to the present day. We will explore rich cultures, forgotten empires, and unique peoples which have inhabited and continue to inhabit this world. Along the way we will try our best to be open minded about the differences we have with our fellow people, and always remember that by doing so, we further the cause of a peaceful global community well into the future.
Essential questions we will explore constantly throughout every unit of study include the following: What can people of the past tell us about ourselves? How has the environment affected and been affected by us? How do we express ourselves creatively throughout time? How is the human experience intertwined in seemingly endless patterns of conflict and warfare? Why is Mark Twain's warning about history true, and what does this mean about the study of history? We may not find all the answers to these questions, but in trying to do so, we ultimately will become better able to understand ourselves a little more. Please join me in this journey.
